Facebook Highlights Page Stories in Feed Separate Panel, Expanding Opportunity for Brand Exposure

Facebook Stories may not have taken off the way Stories have on Instagram, but it is slowly gaining momentum. Now at 500 million daily users across Facebook and Messenger, up from 300 million at this time last year, Facebook remains confident that Stories are the future of social sharing. Spotify Quietly Expands Music Sharing Into Facebook Stories

The new Facebook Stories integration includes 15-second song previews for viewers. The viewer can tap the “Play on Spotify” button in the story to open the Spotify app. Spotify says the feature is designed mostly with artists and their teams in mind. It gives them another avenue to share new hits across Facebook. Last year, Spotify introduced the music sharing feature for Instagram Stories.  Albums, tracks, and playlists now are available on both Instagram and Facebook Stories.It looks like Spotify’s integration with Instagram Stories has bolstered both platforms, with increased engagement on users’ Stories and traffic flowing back to Spotify. → Read more here 

Snapchat Releases Latest Update of Trending Topics on the Platform

Apple Music FINALLY gets a web interface

Almost four years after its launch, Apple has finally launched a web player for its streaming service, Apple Music. The web version is currently in beta and available to everyone across the world. This isn’t yet a stable release, but it does include almost all of the service’s features. You can access your library, playlists, and For You sections. Just like in the app, you can search for songs, play online radio stations, and check out new releases in the Browse section. Apple Music launches a dedicated Shazam Discovery Chart

Apple Music launched its Shazam Discovery Top 50 list, a weekly global ranking of 50 artists. The list is designed to highlight emerging artists that are trending. The new chart will be updated every Tuesday and is available exclusively on Apple Music. The music recognition app handles over 20 million requests per day and has over 1 billion downloads.

Artists at the top of the list as it launched include Ohana Bam, A$ton Wyld, Tones and I, and Regard.  And if you don’t recognize all of those names, join the club — though you might be staring at a list of tomorrow’s superstars. → Read more here 

Instagram Saves are the hot new Engagement Metric

Goodbye likes, hello saves: Instagram saves are the hottest engagement metric that brands are tracking right now (and for good reason). With Instagram testing the removal of likes, success metrics for Instagram feed posts are moving away from public likes in favour of the private “saves” metric instead.

Instagram saves are also a key signal for how the Instagram algorithm works: the more saves you get on a post, the more people it will be shown to in the algorithm. → Read more here

Reddit tests live broadcasting with a Public Access Network

Reddit today revealed it’s testing its own live-streaming service, called RPAN or Reddit Public Access Network. It’ll be running all week, presumably to see what kind of shows Redditors put on before the site rolls it out to everyone.

The R/PAN subreddit includes a series of short videos comparing the service to public access TV. The videos, which appeared over the weekend before the official announcement, appeared intentionally vague to tease the coming announcement. It seemed to work, because there’s nothing Reddit likes more than a good mystery to solve. → Read more here
